There is nothing better than Heidelberg!

Kamala Printing Press is based in Varanasi, which is located in northern India. This city of 1.2 million inhabitants lies directly on the Ganges in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is one of the oldest in India. The print shop was founded in 1990 by Mr. Anjani Kumar Singh and is mainly active in the commercial sector. Originating in the 1980s from a cardboard supplier, the printing business has grown continuously. It has also responded to changes in the media industry and invested heavily both in technical equipment and in targeting customers.

Over the years, Kamala Printing Press has established itself as a print shop with an excellent reputation for customer service and high-quality printing. The demand for state-of-the-art technology fueled the long-held desire for a printing press from Heidelberg. A Speedmaster SM 74 four-color was thus put into operation in spring 2013.  Right from the start of production, Singh was in no doubt: “There’s nothing better than Heidelberg when it comes to performance and productivity. I’ve long dreamed of owning a press from Heidelberg and now my dream has come true.” The new Speedmaster SM 74 four-color impresses with its excellent flexibility, which enables processing of substrates ranging from 0.03 mm (0.0012 in) to 0.6 mm (0.024 in) at high production speeds. “Thanks to a potential production speed of 15,000 sheets/h, we can deliver orders within 24 hours. This was not possible with our Japanese press. Four to five days’ production time has been common practice until now,” says Singh. Equipment components such as AutoPlate or the speed-compensated inking and dampening system reduce makeready times to a minimum. “We also achieve a print quality that gives us here in Varanasi a major competitive advantage.”

The press technology of the Speedmaster SM 74 is augmented by Prinect Press Center Compact for machine control, Prinect Easy Control to measure and control color data and Prepress Interface to transfer prepress data to the press. “This optimized equipment has enabled us to increase our productivity by 30%. At the same time, makeready times and waste have been reduced to a minimum. The resulting free capacity has been quickly filled by new orders.” Singh stresses that his printers now have time to fully concentrate on print quality. This has had a positive impact on our print network, which has been established over the years, and further strengthened our reputation with customers. Existing customer relationships have been enhanced and new ones developed. Singh is as impressed by Heidelberg service as he is by the aftersales service. “I’ve never known such good support from a supplier. The decision to invest in the new Speedmaster SM 74 was absolutely right and strengthens our competitive position significantly.”
